In the room, an all female OR staff buzz about, getting things their instruments and equipment prepped. I pull on an isolation gown, and new latex gloves and get myself set up too. There are a lot of people, and a lot of sounds, but I encourage you to focus on me. I place sticky pads on your chest, ribs and abdomen while explaining myself to you. Once I've finished, the sounds of your heart rate fill the room. I listen to them carefully as I move forward with the task at hand - getting you comfortable enough to undergo your procedure... Then the technicians get to work. Lifting your legs into stirrups and pulling your legs high and far apart exposing your pelvis before they drape and sterilize you. Once they have the whirlwind of activity around your comes to a close and we all stand by as the surgeon enters to OR.
